Problem with installing new ram

Ok my friend's computer is using a Pentium 4 processor, but it requires PC-133 SD-RAM, I only have PC-100 ram to put on it, but I put the ram in and all, and all it does when I start up is make 3 beeps and doesn't start up, but when I take the PC-100 ram out it goes fine. What can I do to be able to use the PC-100 ram?
 
Try installing the PC100 stick in DIMM1 and whatever else you have after it.

If that doesn't work, install the PC100 stick in DIMM1 solo, without any other ram. If that doesn't work, you'll know that you're stuck and can't add that extra ram.

Also, you might want to check for BIOS updates on that board, maybe it was an issue.

I've had no problems with PC133 clocking down to PC100, so... Good luck.
 
I dont recall any P4 runnig pc133, I thougth they all ran with ddr and or rdram
 
Early P4 williamettes used pc133 no?
If you get a pc 100 to work it's going to all be at 100.
If it's a Dell they can be picky about which brand regardless of the right speed.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.
 
maybe you are at the maximum amount of ram that that computer can handle. how much is in it now?
