Problem with Front USB ports.

Hi guys, I have a Antec P180B and my problem is that some of my usb devices don't work in the front ports. I can't figure out why. It's kinda a crap shoot.

My USB key and my IR receiver work off the front ports but my Ipod Shuffle and my 80G 2.5inch External HD do not. Does anyone else have this problem?

Obviously they work of the back ports that are on the motherboard, but I also have a couple backports which use the extra USB1 connection on my motherboard (same as the front ports which are connected to USB3) and they work on those ports.

Also, the devices worked on my previous SONATA II case which is weird... cause P180B is supposed to be a higher end case.

Any thoughts?
 
It's not an issue with the case per se. Well, it kind of is. The problem is that the front USB ports are connected to the motherboard through relatively thin wires. That isn't a problem for sending data back and forth, but it is a problem when you're tring to power something more power-hungry than a flash drive, like the charger in a Shuffle or a notebook hard drive. The USB ports on the back of your machine (including the ones on the expansion bracket) have beefier connections to the 5V and GND rails, and so they can power those devices just fine.
