Problem with external drive showing up in My Computer

I think my external Maxtor 250GB has finally bit the dust. I tried accessing it this morning and it just clicks for like 2 minutes every second or so. I tried going into the Windows disk management and it picks it up as a 233GB HD with all the space free, as it should, but it doesn't show up under My Computer.

What gives?
 
If disk management shows it as free space, then it doesn't have a partition on it..

Right click the free space and choose create partition.

I can't right click it because my computer freezes up and then an error pops up saying:

F:\ is not accessible.

The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
 
Sounds like it died.

Time for RMA.. that or a viking funeral.. (hmm lighter fluid, and a small toy boat)
