Problem with eVGA 6600GT

I am using an eVGA nVidia GeForce 6600GT 128 MB video card (approx. two years old) and it hasn't been working. When I try to boot up my computer, random letters fill the screen until it reaches the Windows loading screen but the computer won't boot into windows, I get a blue screen and then the system restarts. But when I'm at the Windows loading screen there are large thick lines going down the screen that shouldn't be there.

I then changed out my 6600GT and replaced with an old GeForce2 MX400 and my computer works normally (except for the greatly reduced video quality) with this card.

What could be the problem?

The card's finished, get it RMA'd asap. If I recall correctly eVGA has a lifetime warranty on their cards.

Thanks for the help =). Unfortunately, my warranty's already expired.

Can you guys recommend a new graphics card for about $100?

sure! what do you do? gaming? and what resolution wouold you be running the games and or other programs at?

I'll be using it mainly to play Counter Strike: Source and Half-Life 2. The native resolution on my LCD monitor (19") is 1280 x 1024 so that's what most of my programs will be running at (unless I have to bump it down to gain more FPS).

In addition to the eVGA that colbyman suggested, I also found another 7600 GT by XFX.

Which one would be better? I've never used XFX before, I've always bought eVGA so I don't know how XFX's quality is. But from what I can see on Newegg's website, the XFX is VERY slightly overclocked and a couple people on the eVGA reviews have complained about fan noise while there aren't any such complaints I can see for the XFX.

Thanks for any help.

XFX and eVGA are both good, I'd personally go with the passive XFX 7600GT cause the fans on these cards are pretty loud imo. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150213
