benq to the left of the dell. I am trying to use nView desktop manager to let me change the background of both displays, but no matter what I do it puts the background I want on the widescreen on the 19'' and my non widescreen background on the widescreen display. the widescreen background even pokes over onto the other display. but when I first am starting up windows, or hit ctrl-alt-del it displays my settings correctly. how do i fix this?

Go to nView Properties>Desktops>click on default or whatever you named it and then go to Properties. check "allow different bg's per display," and then select a bg for each monitor. That should do it.

thats what i did, i selected 2 seperate backgrounds but they are on hte wrong displays. it thinks the non widescreen is a widescreen

Are the resolutions correct?

I can't help you with your software, but UltraMon should have no problems with assigning wallpapers to any monitor. I had 3 different resolutions on 3 monitors, a 20", a 19" and a 17" and UltraMon made it really easy. Just click on the monitor you want, select the wallpaper and apply the settings. You can also have different screen savers as well, not sure if you have that option or not.
