not sure if this belongs here but ill post anyways.
first off i will list my specs

q6600@3.0
9800gx2
4gb
175.16
vista 64 sp 1
if it matters, benq g2400w

after i reformated, i installed counterstrike 1.6 and when i join a server it looks choppy. the only way i can really describe it is if you view a demo using viewdemo <demoname> and the demo is playing but also loading at the same time. it does not feel smooth at all and it looks like im playing with 20fps. sometimes however i can alt tab out, search the internet, come back in and it plays smooth as can be. im using vsync so my fps is capped at 60.

is this hardware related or is this something to do with vista? i've tried reinstalling steam, deleting my config and tweaking diffrent video settings but it doesnt get any better. obviously my system is overkill for such an old game but its the game i play most.

thanks in advance and sorry if this is in the wrong section

I'm not sure if I remember correctly but I think that CS had a software rendering or OpenGL / Direct3D rendering for video options, it sounds like you're on Direct3D or Software

You shouldn't have any problems, did you check your FPS with Fraps? I doubt its your system so it may be your internet connection. Do a bandwidth test and make sure you are getting atleast 500kbps. (Verizon commercial watch it, even at 3 jigawits, with a bad internet connection you wont get crap done).

Heres what u do reinstall the graphic drivers after trying reinstalling directx also and turn off vsync give that a try never happened to me, but you can try that might help=).

speakeasy speed test gave me ...
11492 kbps down
1106 kbps up

also i am not in software or d3d mode. trying to reinstall drivers/directx. post here soon

ok, i got it working, at least i hope i did. it plays smooth and all lets hope it doesnt change its mind later and go to shit.

i reinstalled drivers and directx but that didnt work. under my hl.exe profile i changed...

multi-gpu peformance mode from: nvidia recommended to: single gpu. dont know why i thought that would work but it did. thanks for your input guys. anyone have a clue why that made a diffrence?
