Problem with BFG 6800 O/C. Help please.

I just put a 6800 O/C in my MSI NEO 2 Platinum and it's all messed up. I am using a 400W P/S.

The text at the bios is all funky looking and barely readable. It boots into windows just fine but there are black lines all over the screen making everything almost unreadable and definitely can't play a game like this.

I don't think it's a heat issue because both fans on the card are running and the case is open and it happens from bootup. I also tried the card in an older computer with with a 300W ps and an epox m/b. Same exact problem.

I tried calling the BFG tech support but all they could suggest is updating the bios on the MSI Neo which I did (I also spent 15 minutes arguing with the tech support lady that it's not a driver issue if it's happening at the bios screen. She insisted that it was a registry issue and did not understand the registry is for windows not bios).

I also reseated it many times as well as cleared the bios.

Am I missing anything ? Do you think it's a bad card ?

What card did it replace? Have you tried the old/a different card?
If another card works fine, I would return it. Did you get it from a retail store, such as the bestbuy deal? If so, I wouldn't bother to mess with it too much, just take it back.
If another one doesn't work though, then you have problems.
 
It replaced an ATI 9500 pro that has been running flawlessly. Slow but flawlessly.

The other computer I tried it on it replaced a geforce 2 gts. :rolleyes:

I think it's gonna be tough to find another one at a local BB but maybe that's the best bet. I thought I could try whatever ideas everyone had tonight and return it tommorow if it did not work.

You did use driver cleaner before replacing the 9500 right?
(not that I really think that is the problem, the card sounds screwed, but its worth a shot)
 
Had the same problem with my MIS NX-6800 with Copper Ultra Heat Sink. Turns out nVidia has been having this problem with quite a few differant brand manufactors, there is a pretty good post over at http://forum.msi.com.tw/thread.php?threadid=57402 any way I RMA'ed my card thru MSI and received in return a perfectly working card without the copper heatsink, just a plain vanilla Aluminum one. :mad: but it does work, runs doom 3 fine at 1280x1024 Med settings (60 plus FPS timedemo demo1.demo) so I guess i should not complain.

I went to BB and exchanged the card for the same exact kind. Plugged it in, and ...... voila it worked perfectly.

Installed Riva Tuner and enabled the extra pipes and shaders and went from 3286 to 3656 in 3dmark05.

Thanks for the advice. Good thing I didn't stay up all night and obsessively try to fix it like I usually do with computer problems.
