Problem with Audigy2 zs (speakers 'missing')

Okay - I have an Audigy2 zs, along with a set of Gigaworks s750s. When I first got them, they worked beautifully. Now though, they're not registering the centre and the side-left speakers. I've tried a few things, and I'm at a loss to explain why. This is what I've tried:

The speaker calibrator doesn't give sound from the side left or the centre speaker. Playing games in 7.1 or 5.1 mode repliactes this behavior.

The side-left speaker definitely works. If I play Doom3 (or any other game) in 5.1 mode, and use the 'upmix' option I can get sound from both side speakers no problems. I can only assume that the front speaker works as well, although the upmix doesn't effect this so I have no way of testing.

All speakers are properly wired in. I've not touched the wiring since they were working just fine. Also, each of the 'faulty' speakers gives a tiny 'pop' when the power is turned on, if I hold them against my ear (just like the other speakers).

The problem isn't the drivers. I have two installs of Windows, each with the creative drivers on. The first install was the one where the speakers were working just fine (with the exact same drivers etc). The second install is a new one. Both exhibit the same problems now.


As far as I can see, this leaves only 2 possibilities: That the soundcard itself is faulty, or that I've wired them in wrong. The speaker-to-subwoofer cables are all in the correct place, and they respond correctly in the 'upmix' mode, so a wiring fault seems extremely unlikely. Also, why would the side-right speaker work and not the side-left if they were wired in badly?

Is there anything else I might have forgotten, or could try before I RMA the sound card?

Hmm... not sure where to look, to be honest! I don't have Creative mediasource on though, and I don't think I've changed anything on the windows install where it was previously working just fine :confused:

I've swapped the centre and one of the side speakers round, and yes - the speaker itself works just fine.

What else could possibly be wrong.

Yep - both control panel and the creative speaker settings are set to 7.1 :confused:

If it were behaving like a 5.1 or a 4.1 system, then I might be able to accept that I've got some setup wrong on both windows installs. However, it's just the front-centre and side-left speakers that aren't recieving any signals :confused:

In 5.1 mode the side speakers aren't used, of course, but the front-centre still recieves no signal.
 
CMSS 3D is in the EAX control panel. Make sure you have it enabled and it set to CMSS 2
 
ahhh the old days of Creative sound cards! Can't even get all the speakers to work, hissing noises, etc. =)
