I just installed the updated drivers and i get the black screen crash while trying to load BF2. I don't know want to go back to 6.4, but just to play this game it seems i will. anyone have any suggestions or fixes?

thanks

Did you change your display resolution when you installed the new drivers?

Go to C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Local\Default and delete video.con (make a backup first) and see if that fixes your problem.

it could be a refresh rate thing as well
delete your video.con file and it should go back to defualt

Mine works. 6.5 cats, Radeon x1900 CF.

I'm changing my resolution via shortcut to 1920 by 1200, and using the same as desktop refresh override to get my 95Hz.

These other things shouldn't phase it, but maybe that video file. I assume that's the one that will make the game optimize shaders again. Probably reinstall BF2 otherwise.

deleted the video.con and its still doing it.

Delete the folder in your My Documents. Start up BF2.

I believe you have an LCD?

If BF2 doesn't run you can go back into My Documents.. the folder will be there once more.. you can edit the Video.con file using notepad. Change the resolution and refresh rate to your screens native resolution and refresh rate (usually 1280x1024 for 17" and 19" LCD's with 75Hz for VGA hookup or 60Hz for DVI).

Try BF2 once more. It's not an ATi driver issue.. it's an irritating Battlefield2 issue.

:D

I went through the same thing after loading 6.4

So any actual improvements by installing 6.5's?

I'm having a problem thats almost like a delay in game

After awhile of playing If i press a key i dont get a reaction right away, its almost like its delayed

Its starting to piss me off, i almost had better performance with my X800XL at this point

What kind of FPS are you guys getting in Bf2?
Particularly in Karkand?
If you don't know how to tell, type renderer.drawfps 1

Find your BF2 shortcut, right click properties, and in Target: add the part in red below

Example:
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

You may also need to delete your video.con file as explained above.

That command line switch overides the in-game settings, so when you go to Video in Options, it'll show a different non-widescreen resolution..don't worry about it, once in a map, you'll be at 1680x1050.
