Hi guys/gals,
i Have an Asus GF4 Ti4200 128MB 8X and i having weird graphical errors. Its been happening for about six months and i've had the card for 1 year. I've been to lazy to post anything:p
It all sort of happened after I OCed it a bit... well i dont really remember correctly but it was shortly after. It's been running at stock for the past 4 months or so.
Now i guess I should be specific about the textural errors. Its basically having textures being stretches every once awhile, IE a line of some texture near buy running across a room for example. Now, when i flush the engine caches, this problem is fixed, only to get more errors like it soon. It's really annoying. (it happens in allt he games i play, AA, UT2k4 and BFV). If it helps, there are certain screwed up textures that always show up at the same places on the maps, and reapear almost instanstly after flushing. Is it a memory problem? It uses crappy Hynix ram. But they'res no artificting as in things that flash all ove the screen. Perhaps i fried it with static electricity. Or maybe its a GPU cooling problem. Any insight? thanks alot. Maybe I could RMA it even though i OCed it?
And if it matter my rig is as follows:

AXP 2500+ OCed to 3200+ 1.8vcore
Abit NF7-S rev2 mobo
2x256 corsair twinx 3200
ASUS 128 Meg ti 4200 8X with hynix crap ram
WD 800JB

Those sure sound like memory OC artifacts to me.....and I've seen my fair share. ;)

It's possible that something happened to the card when it WAS overclocked, and now it's just messed. The same thing happened to my friends FX5200 so don't worry.

There might not be a lot you can do to get rid of the "glitches" for good if it IS memory related like I'm suspecting. I don't really believe in trying to RMA a card after an overclocking mishap but I hope there's another solution that we/you can come to here.

Thanks cornellius.
Anyone else have any insight about what i might do?

Dont know what you did, but try different drivers maybe? Other then that, I hate to say but you might have toasted it and slightly damaged it. Now it's doing what it's doing. Your best bet would be to RMA it and just not say anything about OC'ing it. What they don't know wont kill them. You'll just get a new one. Just dont make the same mistake and make sure that you get one with good ram if you can.

That just seems really dishonest to me. I like to support certain companies all that I can.....and cheaping them out of a free card is just wrong. Their RMA polocies are not in place to give overclockers something to fall back on.....they're there to give support to people who actually do have defective cards or actual problems with their hardware.

do what you want, but it's wrong to abuse the system like that.

Yeah actually you are right. Since if people start to abuse the system so much then things could really change and then there would be no RMA'ing at all.

If Liam didnt OC that much then whats wrong with RMA'ing it back? I mean it should be able to OC just a bit anyways, but I guess the policy is that if you OC then the warranty/support is voided all togehter. I dunno... the world seems to work in mysterious ways... seems like most of the time business is business even if its dishonest. I dont think there is one company or person that could say that they do 100% full honest business. I guess its just a question of morals/values etc etc... bottom line do what you gotta do. Dont let anyone else tell you otherwise.

Okay thanks again\
but one more question:
would putting some AS5 hurt?
or putting some ramsinks on. is it worth it or should i save my 10 bucks
thanks.

Exactly, I'm glad someone (else) finally said it. :)

Umm, putting on new compound/ramsinks would typically involve altering the card in some way shape or form so you MIGHT be out of luck. I say that because there are different ways of attaching these things. Most people end up epoxying on their ramsinks.....more often then not leaving you with a card that cannot be RMA'd. Some epoxy is permanent, some isn't.....depends what you use.

I'm not sure if they'd go to the extent of pullin of the HSF to check to see if THEIR compound was still on there, but you never know. ;)
