Problem with a XFX HD6750

Specs:
Hanns G 25" monitor with HDMI or VGA
The XFX HD6750 replaced a dead XFX 9800GT
Gigabyte ep45-ud3r mobo with Realtek audio
Hauppauge tv tuner
Vizio tv with hdmi using a dvi to hdmi adapter

Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) Service Pack 1, updated and latest drivers

The problem:
Using the dvi-hdmi cable that came with the monitor and a internal 2 wire s/pdif cable, I had sound from the monitor using the 9800GT.

XFX swapped the 9800GT for the HD6750, using the same monitor and tv cables, sound will not work. Sound properties says not plugged in for AMD hdmi audio.
Realtek works and is active.

I contacted XFX and they sent me a special dvi to hdmi adapter, it came today and still no change.

I have tried Ubuntu, disabling Realtek, reinstalling drivers, etc.

The dvi-hdmi cable is missing the center pins and so is the adapter for the tv, but the one from XFX is not. I sent a reply to XFX, to see what they say.

Has anyone seen this problem?

If they change out the card, what is a comparable Nvidia card to the AMD card? Rebranding on these cards is a pain.

This model of the HD6750 has a mini display port and 2 dvi ports, no direct hdmi port, so it makes things harder, I may ask them to switch to the other model with hdmi, but different memory, etc., to avoid the adapters.
