problem with a friend's comp

i got a call while in the car today, and its my friend, needign some help with his comp. at the time, he overclocked his p4 to a speed i dunno of. he called me asking wat the vcore meant, and and i said it was the voltage,and that if he wanted to raise it do it by the smallest increments possible (i think i told him right)

later on, he tells me what his problem is, (i didnt know about it when he asked about vcore). he told me that when he turns on his comp, the white text on black background shows up, and BIOS opens up and stuff, btu once it gets to the time where the winxp logo should start loading, the screen goes blank. I went over, just by chance, as i had nothing to do, and set everything back to default. i told him maybe to try to leave it off for a while adn turn it back on, so we left for 10 minutes, tried, but it didnt work.

i forgot to add, he was using it fine when his comptuer just restarted. as of that moment, i thought it might have overheated, but seeing as how it wouldnt work after a few minutes, i didnt think so (maybe i should've waited longer? id unno) And then he tells me he was playing with his BIOS settings right before, and he doesnt really know what he did. and resetting back to default didnt work, so now i dont know what to do. Help?

lol overclocking without knowing what vcore is

Edit : Try resetting the cmos.

Agreed, reset the cmos. The proc is fine if you see everything you guys are seeing, he probably just changed some mem settings or has a bad voltage setting still. Either way the thing is not fried. How do people end up ocing w/o reading up on it?

but this is for my own personal knowledge
What has to be working for the BIOS to show up? like...would the cpu, memory, and other stuff have to be working?

If you can actually get into the bios both the memory and cpu are fine.
