Problem with 91.33

Not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but I can't seem to get any of the drivers to work after some of the earlier ones. The last 5 or 6 releases of drivers have all had problems for me, but this one seems kind of stupid:

Everytime I leave a game i get stuck with complete blackness on the explorer screen. The task manager won't show up, so i can't restart explorer, so I end up having to reboot, which is kind of a pain in the ass.

Anyone else having this problem? Could it just be Direct X needing to be reinstalled? Which drivers are the most stable so far?

Oh yeah, i have a 7600GT, but I never experienced as many problems with my old 6600 as I have with this card.

I should also add, on this black screen I still have the mouse cursor, as responsive as ever, but clicking things doesn't seem to work.

Using the 91.33's now with the sig rig and rock stable with them.

Can you list your spec's please?

Asus A8N-E
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ X2
2 GIG RAM Corsair Value Select (4x512MB; DDR3200)
GeForce 7600GT
Windows XP Home SP2

anything else?

ive been having that happen too but my card is new so i dont know if its the 91.33 driver or not.
ill try the 84.21 version and see what happens.

The 91.28's hosed my system. After I installed them, I could never quite get everything back to normal even using driver cleaner is safe mode. It got so bad I had to reformat.

I installed the 91.31's fresh without a problem. If you ever had the 91.28's on your rig, that might be the problem.

ok still early to say but so far looks like the 84.21 driver might have solved my problems.
been running atitool's artifact test for 33 min with no freeze or errors yet,it froze my main monitor in 20 min's with the previous driver.

btw im using a dual monitor setup and the secondery seems to have someminor issues, for example it flickers twice when i right click the nvidia system tray icon in all dsriver versions ive tryed.the main monitor (lcd) works just fine.both have analog vga connecters so i have to use adapters for both to connect to the dvi outs on the card.

yeah, mine is running perfect again under 84.21's... sigh, yet another release I'll have to pass on...

(also, my card is also new, but I had problems with my old 6600 as well with some of the newer drivers....)

glad they're fixing all the SLI stuff, its just too bad its at the expense of some of us single GPU users

The 91.33 still have "borked" TV-OUT...the aspect ratio is wrong and zoomed in way to much.

Terra...

Having the same problems as ya'll with 91.33. Black screen, no task manager can't click on anything. If you Windows-L and log back in it fixes the problem instead of having to reboot. (At least on my machine)

Let's hope the next set of drivers works a little better (I was beginning to think i screwed up my nice and shiny fresh XP reinstall somehow. Good to hear others are having the same problem.)

91/33 works fine for me.

On a side note, I hate this Intellitext crap.

i got a cooler for the 7600gt because i didnt like the stocks performance, not only did it lower the gpu's temp alot i am now running the atitool artifact test again with 91.33 driver and so far so good 67 min and still going.

so maybe the problem is also in part because of a bad stock hsf?!

I think i may just go back to 84.21

never had any problems with them

Make sure your running the 6.86 chipset drivers with the 91.33

well as far as i can tell the stock hsf is responsible for these problems.
not only am i running 91.33 with no problems i even overclocked my card to 625/800 and it is working great with low temps of 44 idle and 55 load instead of 55 idle 75 load with the stock hsf at stock settings (550/700)

seems going back to the 84.21 also worked for me. No longer crashing in Oblivian which is a good thing.

This is a bug i read on the 9x.xx series. Pretty much if you have a JAVA Application running then when you exit games you get this blank screen. You can fix this by running a video file which fixes this issue or just disable the java program your running before loading the game.

It works for me. I had Azureus running and after i exit Axureus and re-ran the same game..no problem full proper exit..but with it on..i get blank desktop. Very annoying bug..but nothing too big..also it seems random aswell..some games do it..others dont.

Yeah, come to think of it, i was running Azureus also. Haven't had it running lately and no problems. As I said, you can also log off (windows-L) and log back in and everthing will be back to normal.

i was also running azureus... but i don't think i should have to close other programs to play games... i would prefer nvidia just fix the drivers

ITs any thing java running in the background that causes this problem. I just run FEAR and exit and dont have problems..so i use that method to get my desktop back.
