oh God D*** it.
So my Reference Cooler styly XFX HD6870 died ....it was under 2yrs old
I have stuff to do and couldn't really be without my pc for 1.5~ish weeks so I bought my self a Sapphire HD7950 (which then pretty much immediately afterwards had another price drop...LOL) whatever the 7950 is doing great at 1000 /1250 (yeah it probably could be oc'd higher I don't care i game at 1080p on single monitor and it is 100degrees yesterday w/ no ac (because it isn't generally 100F by the beach here.... but yeah it is hot 90~F in the house right now...getting pretty sick of it....so i actually backed off my gpu to stock and cpu overclocks for now because it is just too warm to feel comfortable with having stuff oc'd right now.) but I digress
XFX sent my a refurb HD6870 w/ the DD cooler (so a totally different style than my old card which broke) this card i installed in my wife's pc (she had my old 9600GT before) uninstalled the nvidia drivers and ran driver cleaner to try to make sure the nvidia stuff wouldn't interfere.
then installed the HD6870 and Cat 12.8 drivers ..using DVI cables it is attached to her two samsung LCD monitors (these monitors and cables worked fine without any issues with the 9600GT). However now when her pc resumes from sleep mode there are artifacts on the display (various multi colored dots on the displays) these artifacts can be cleared by right clicking on desktop and selecting refresh (but that is annoying).
i never had the problem using my orig HD6870 on my two Dell Ultrasharp displays (using DP connection). But as mentioned when resuming from S3 the display is corrupted on my wife's pc using DVI.
My question is ... is the problem most likely driver related / possible conflict with some remnant of the nvidia drivers...or is the problem most likely XFX just sent my a slightly less broken video card (my old HD6870 was kaput and could not load windows anymore (would hang on strippy lines).
Thoughts?
I assume if XFX thinks it is another bad card they are going to try to make my pay shipping back to them again??? which is going to start pissing me off.
also the DD cooler HD6870 is idling at 59~C anyone know if that is about right? or does it seem high....load temps where in mid/upper 70s (again house was freaking 29C yesterday).
thank you in advance for any help / insights
