My computer starts up (for about 2 minutes), and then it shuts down again instantly. I think I messed it up somehow when I vacuumed it.

Here are my specs:

P4 2GHz 400MHz FSB
A generic Compaq mainboard
2x 256MB PC2100
ASUS GF4 Ti4600
120GB HD

I took it to the local computer shop to see what was the problem, and they told me that I had a bad mobo and PSU. Also, they said that the fan on my graphics card wasn't working.

I thought about getting a motherboard and psu from New Egg, and installing it myself. However, I have a few questions first:

Is it possible to install a Williamete(sp) core P4 into a Northwood motherboard?

What's the best motherboard for my situation? I really don't want to spend too much on it.

What PSU should I get? I wouldn't think that I would need much power for this machine.

Please ask for any clarification you need. I'd really appreciate any help that I can get.

Yep...our PCs have shut off monitors much like the norm these days. Sounds like your computer is on long enough to heat up, then shuts off. Also make sure all the fans spin...that you didn't push a cable between any blades or anything.

after u finshed doing your cleaning, did u check if anything was out of the way of it supposd to be. did anything move. if u remeber that can help u out and save u a lot of $

Thats a pretty new PC - its probably still under warranty. Call up HP and take advange of it.

Thanks for all of the replies so far. I'll go try and see if any of the fans are obstructed. Also, Party2go9820 brought up a good point. I'll go an see if it's still under warranty.
