Problem (Video Card)

I was messing around with my video card options, (XFX Geforce MX4000 128MB) because there was a massive black border that wasn't being used. (Yes I did try stretching it using the moniter) When I pressed apply, (I don't remember what I changed) The start bar, and all my display settings task disappeared, along with the desktop icons. Leaving only the background showing. I proceeded to restart, and started in Safe Mode. I discovered that the Video Card wasn't installed. (I installed the card itself last night, and the driver today) So I installed the driver. I restart the computer and the same problem appears. So I restart it in safemode, and a bunch of C:/Windows/System32 Jibber Jabber appeared, and never went to the desktop.

Oh, and also my DVD-Rom Drive is working, while my DVD+/-RW drive isn't. And neither is my floppy.

I'm new to most of this hardware stuff. So if you know what's wrong. Please help me.

did you try loading a fresh OS? and make sure you got the right driver for it. like the right driver for the right OS. otherwise i dont know, i guess make sure no pins are broke on the port.

Good Luck

How can I install a fresh OS? The idea crossed my mind. I just didn't know how to do it.

well you can, reformat and install, or just pop the OS disk and then it will give you a option. 1) Remove ( i think) 2) Repair 3)Install. and then just go through it. i would try a repair and it should give you a question saying if you want to just upgrade if you choose to install new. but if you repair it will just search the windows files and fix any problems. can anyone back me up on this? i got win2000pro so thats what i would do.

It doesn't detect the windows disk. It just goes to the background screen with no options, and nothing else happens. (I have a Windows XP Home Edition Reinstallation disk, it worked fine)

Oh here's the specs of the comp that i built yesterday. If you need it.

Soyo P4I845PE Motherboard
Toshiba 80 GB Hard Drive
Arctec DVD Rom
Arctec DVD+/-RW
Pentium 4 2.8 GHZ
512 RAM PC2700
XFX Geforce MX4000 128MB
Soyo Dragon Case

hmm... did you put the disk in and then restart it, it would give you options after the cmos loads up and everything...

EDIT: do you have aim so we can talk easier?

EDIT: also try to have windows find a cheap driver, EX: i'm using a tnt2 riva 64mb and its running off a vanta 8mb. also do you have the agp configured to it? so you know i am getting a 8500le shipped to me right now so haha.

Why don't you just AIM me because I have no Idea what you just said.
