I leave my computer on all of the time so it was strange to see that it was off this morning. I thought, no big deal I'll just turn it back on-- That didn't work. The fans came on for 1 second and then the whole thing was off again. I tried turning it on again multiple times with no go at all.
After opening it up and making sure everything appeared to be in the right place, I tried turning it on again. I got nothing out of it except for a buzz coming from the power supply when I held down the power button. If I do hold down the power button the PSU fan comes on and seems fine but there is an irregular buzzing noise coming from it. The mobo is an Abit IC7-G so there are two diagnostic lights. One is green which means power is reaching the mobo, but the other light only comes on briefly when I press the power button.
I thought the PSU was the culprit so I put it in another computer and it worked fine. I have tried stripping everything off of the mobo just to see if it would power on and stay on, but it won't, not even with just the cpu and ram.
I'm thinking the motherboard is the problem, but I don't have any replacement boards laying around, and I got the board from Newegg a while ago, so I'd have to send it back in to them if they'll even take it. Has anyone dealt with exchanging a mobo with Newegg before, especially after about a year?
