Problem OC'ing

I'm trying to get my machine to break the 4ghz barrier - and I'm not sure if I'm at some kind of limitation, or if maybe I'm doing this incorrectly, but here's what my machine looks like:

Koolance PC2-600 Case
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
Intel P4 3.4ghz (1mb Cache)
OCZ Gold-Series PC-4400 RAM (512mb x 2)
ATI Radeon 9800-XT (256mb)

So, when I overclock I can use the typical auto-overclocker at up to +10%, but I can't go beyond that. When I do that it slows the bus to 266mhz instead of 400mhz. So I tried to do it manually and set it to 400mhz and the FSB to 225mhz. Anything over 225mhz and Windows-XP will not boot.

Can someone help me out to get the most out of my system - or guide me to something I can read to learn more?

Switch the SATA cable to the other set of ports??????? That's not going to do anything. It only blue screens on boot when the FSB gets too high. I didn't say I was getting an "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" on boot or anything like that. It just blue screens for about 1/2 a second and reboots - turn the FSB down to around 225 and it comes right up.

As far as being "new-ish" to overclocking, yes - which is why I am asking these questions.

I could, but I don't know what the settings are supposed to be - which is why I guess it's acting this way. I would think with PC4400 OCZ memory I should be able to get way past the 225mhz FSB setting.

As for the sata thing mentioned...I have heard that same thing happening if sata is setup in the wrong ports. If the sata port you are using is not locked it will be set to the speed of the FSB, and can't handle the speeds the FSB is doing.

That's really interesting.... would a different controller solve the problem you think?

I know on my Neo2 Platinum Sata 3/4 are locked and 1/2 are not. Many people originally had problems trying to overclock with Sata drives on 1/2 with the same type of problems.

Are there AGP/PCI locks for Intel motherboards? I dunno much about it, but on A64 mobos, you can set an AGP/PCI variable from 66-100, setting it to 67 usually engages the lock on it... Otherwise, one would run into similar symptoms to what you described, I think.

have you tryed increasing the voltage? make sure the pci/agp are locked

happens on my k8n neo2 which is why i said switch it, im stable at 2.4ghz (267fsb on my 3000+ or rather WAS stable but ive got a shit psu)

the sata either BSOD'ed me or wouldnt load windows...

your newish to overclocking and trying to hit 4GHZ? are you mad? not to be a flame but your a newbie at overclocking... 4ghz is a big barrier... and your on a p4, no doubt a prescott...

just because your memory says it can take it doesnt mean everything will, please, read up and practice on old systems, old chip or atleast tone it down a bit before you fry your shit...
