A few days ago I posted about my machine restarting several times because of an irq conflict (I think). I left the post searching the answer on my own and noticed that some people have experienced the same thing after installing SP2 on XP Pro. Anyways, the problem appears to be worst now. To refresh you minds, here's my set-up:

Thermaltake Tsunami case
MSI K8Neo Platinum
Seagate 160 SATA drive
AMD Sempron 3100+ (no money)
GEIL 3200 Value 512 RAM
TNT2 ULTRA (waiting for the 6600 GT to come out)
NEC 2510A DVD burner
ANTEC Neopower 480 PSU

There has been no o/cing
Ran Memtest86+ for several hours an no probs
I have three case fans

Temps:
CPU: ~ 38C
System: ~ 22C

Is anyone experiencing the same thing?
If so, what did you do about it?
 
I have no idea what's up with SP2, but at work, there are tons of computers coming back in because of new issues once SP2 was installed. There is something totally glitchy about SP2.
 
So should I just uninstall SP2? My main concern is that I'm a student and I CANNOT aford to lose papers.
 
take out hd and put it on another compupter and copy files over then reinstall windows with just sp1

i cant deal with all this sp2 crap so im just sticking wiht sp1 :p
 
Agreed. Dump those files onto a friend's computer, burn it onto a CD or a DVD.

Reformat and reinstall. That is prolly your best bet. I would also suggest taking out your papers prior to doing anything including trying to just remove SP2. Is that even possible to roll back onto SP1?
 
My main concern is this: I just installed Norton SystemWorks 2005 and several other programs that require registration, do I have to explain the whole process to them or can I just active the proggys and not worry about being hunted down (all my programs are LEGAL).

You should be fine with re-registering your Norton stuff. I had to re-register my Norton Systemworks after a format/reinstall and it took it without any problems. I have Norton 2004.
 
Okay, re-installation it is but...

I just (2 weeks ago) did a complete re-installation of XP because of SP2 (I obviously had to activate it), will MS bother me because I re-register my copy within the 90 days?
