Hey guys. I just got my system built and i'm having a problem getting XP installed. I have a SATA drive on a p4p800 motherboard.

My problem is this, when XP installation starts i know i'm suppost to hit F6 when it asks for third party drivers. I try and it just passes it up. I've tried everything holding down F6, tapping it etc. Nothing.

It now asks me about midway through preparing the installation at the begining for any special drivers, because it says it can't find any drives. I put in my SATA driver disk and it loads up the drivers, but then when it gets to start the installation it says no hard disk found.

Another thing, all the manuels for the p4p800 says the top SATA connector is connector 1 and the bottom is connector 2. If i look on the motherboard, there is little print next to each. It says the top is connector 2 and and bottom connector 1. I tried using both of them and no luck.

I have the disk set for cable select, I'm going to try and set it to master or something. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have a Maxtor 6Y120M0 drive

Well fixed my own problem. Stupid me put a jumper over Master. SATA drives, don't need jumpers. Dur should have known.

Live and learn i guess.

Hi, I am having the same problem as you, however, being a complete noob, especially to SATA, I have no idea where to find this jumper to remove if that is my problem.

Yup the jumpers are supposedly for power options eventually
always leave em at the default unless otherwise specifically instructed

congatz on the problem solving ;)
