Problem installing fans

How exactly are you supposed to screw in fans? The screws that some with the Scythe S-Flex fans don't fit perfectly through the mounting holes on the fan itself as there are no grooves for the screws. Do you have to forcibly screw them in, thus creating grooves in the fan's mounting holes.
