First off...system specs:
AMD 4000+ oc'ed 11x250 - 2.75ghz @ 1.65v
Crucial Ballistix TracerT PC4000 @ 2.5-4-4-10
Radeon X850XT
Plextor 716 DVD-RW
Thermaltake TruePower 680w PSU
Soltek K890-PRO Mobo
-VIA VT8237 SATA Controller
--2x 36gb WD Raptors in RAID 0
-Promise FastTrak 579 Controller
--2x 300gb Seagate 7200.8
Ok...that is a list of all the components just in case.
When I first installed this system with the original BIOS, I initially had a problem getting Windows to work right with the Promise Drivers. After figuring it out and installing different drivers the Promise Controller worked fine. It wasn't always reliable however, I had have to run check disk about every 2-3 days for corrupt files, etc. When this started getting old I decided to flash the system BIOS to a newer revision. I thought that it might help the problem.
Well, after I flashed it and rebooted Windows I noticed in the Device Manager that my Promise Controller wasn't responding. After numerous times of trying to uninstall the device and reinstall all kinds of different drivers the damn thing would never initialize! I've gone through everything and I don't understand how to fix the problem. Heres a step by step process I used:
1. Un-install the Promise Controller from Device Manager.
2. Go to control panel and add new hardware. Also tried "Scan for Hardware Changes" in the Device Manager.
3. After the new hardware was detected and added it was listed in Device Manager but with a Code 10 error "Device Cannot Start"
4. Double clicked the device, update drivers, and said no to all the following and I manually searched for all my drivers, in which none of them worked
I repeated that process so many times, even adding different steps here and there but to no avail it never works...it always gives me the Code 10 error. I don't want to totally reformat everything and start from scratch unless its the LAST option. I have files on the 300gb hard drives that are hooked up to the Promise Controller that I don't want to lose. One option I was pending on was to flash the BIOS to a later revision but I don't know if that will work.
Please help me! This thing is driving me crazy. I finally got the system running how I wanted it too and now the damn controller won't work. Thanks in advance!
