Problem idle temps with Core X6800

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how the hell to keep my X6800 cool without crazy idle temps.

I upgraded from a Pentium E2160, which was a 65W part. Overclocked to about 2.9GHz, it was hitting 31-32*C under load with a Corsair H60. I was using an Asus P5B at the time.

Well, I dropped the X6800 and my temps went to hell. 58*C idle. Reseating didn't help significantly. Even with suggestions from the Corsair rep, no dice. P5B died on me so I moved to a more basic MSI P965 Neo-F and more of the same. Even with a move from an NZXT GAMA to a Fractal Design XL R2 and some grommets per the Corsair rep, I was still doing 52*C. Idle. With a second fan.

So, fuck it, I ordered a Cooler Master 212 EVO. Idle temps are 45*C. High temps under load are 55*C. Better, but I see people with Sandy Bridge 95W parts overclocked over 4GHz doing better. Turned on C1E and run about 36*C.

I'm using Core Temp, and realize some people may not, but I didn't expect this sort of shit on temps moving from a 65W part to a 75W one on the same architecture.

This is driving me nuts because with C1E enabled and all sorts of cooling, my idle is basically double on the X6800 to the OC'd load of an E2160. I expect it to be a little higher, but this just seems ridiculous. I'm not even worried about overclocking as much as not having a CPU cook at idle with solid cooling.

Just a thought...does the X6800 have an unusually high stock vcore voltage compared to the E2160 that it replaced? Bad sensor/uncalibrated reading from CPU itself reporting higher than actual temps to coretemp??

That was always a hot running chip. You are also using the lower end of coolers. Likely a better cooler will make a major difference.

Ok. Well, I'll probably do some sort of MB/CPU/RAM upgrade later this year, so this will suffice for now. I'm just glad to know I'm not going crazy.
