Problem Extending power wire

I have a small computer in my car, and I ran 2 10 foot wires from the mother board to the switch. It does not work, but if shorten them down to like 4 inches it works fine. Any ideas? Is there such thing as a power switch wire that is to long?
 
you'd probably be ok if your wire was 20 guage or lower but that would be some thick wires for what you're doing.
