Problem downloading files

Right now I'm using Windows XP Pro, and firefox version 2.0. This was happening when the beta 2 came out as well, but I'm having a problem downloading files, such as updates and patches to programs. When I try to downloading them, the download goes for a bit, but if the file is bigger than about 30 to 40 mb, then the download freezes half way and just stops. I try re-downloading, and the same thing happens. I'm completely uninstalled all versions of firefox on my computer and reinstalled, but I'm not sure what to do about it.

Any suggestions would be great.

Could this be a problem with software conflicting with each other? This is on my laptop and desktop, and I've tried it using both the internet at home and at work (for the laptop), and both have the same problem.
