Hello Linux gurus,

I'm having a problem trying to create a Windows 7 KVM on my IBM work laptop.

I have Redhat EL6.

After I create the Windows 7 KVM, it says it was successful. But when I try to launch it for the first time, it can't find a boot device. I get this error.

I have tried at least 4 or 5 times now, using different allocating space, 30G, 40G, etc. Just keep getting the same thing.

I'm trying to avoid contacting IBM support, because they are basically worthless. (India support).

Please help!!

Have you attached the Win7 install media to the virtual machine? Usually this is pointing the virtual optical drive to an ISO or forwarding a USB boot device.

Hi Fro, no there is no Win7 install media. This is my IBM work laptop, so I assume the media is on the machine when I run the "Virtual Image Creator" app. When I run that it goes through the process, installing files, etc. And then it completes successfully.

But when I launch it for the first time, this what I get.

Here's a screenshot from the Virtual Machine Manager settings.

prefaced again with "I've never used kvm, but..." :D

You'll likely need to supply your own Windows 7 media. The Windows 7 template probably just configured the virtual machine for use with Windows 7 but would not be likely to include a pre-populated image. If you had an iso, I bet you could click on IDE CDROM 1 and have an option to load/connect it. When you start the VM, it would then boot off of it and you'd do a typical Win7 install process.
