Problem After Installing New Card

My friend installed a new video card (GTX 275) and now whenever he start the machine it freezes at the windows loading screen. He has to hit the restart button and it asks to load windows normally and he does, then it loads to the desktop successfully. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

His machine is this:
Gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3p
Q9650
Patriot 2x2
BFG 650
EVGA GTX 275

what card did he have in it before the gtx 275? its most likely a drivers issue.. when windows goes to load the display drivers its crashing.. either way your friend should go in and delete any display drivers he has installed.. either nvidia or ATI or what ever he had in it before.. reboot after uninstalling.. then reinstall the nvidia drivers..

+1. I'd try safe mode, uninstall any / all video drivers and see how things go. If that doesn't work...

then I'd start leaning towards a hardware issue, but before that, rule out any software issues. If his box is overclocked, drop everything down to stock as well to ensure the best stability as well.

Good Luck!

Also, as said above go into safe mode and delete previous drivers, etc.

Get ccleaner and driver sweeper.

He just reformatted and it's still doing it. Started happening after installing his new card. Really weird. He heard he may need to update the bios on the ga-ep45-ud3p, does that sound right?

Thanks for all the responses so far.
