(if this is posted in the wrong forum, let me know, I put it in graphics cards because it only happens when playing this game)

Hey guys,

I have tried to fix this problem myself and through tech support over the last week, but nothing is working. So I figure it’s time to bring it to the pros…you!

GAME: World In Conflict

PROBLEM: After anywhere from 10-40 min’s, the game will stop dead in the middle of gameplay, stutter a bit, and crash to the desktop with the following error:

Problem signature
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: wic.exe
Application Version: 1.0.0.9

SOLUTIONS TRIED:

1.) Lowering graphics settings to every level (High, Med, Low)
2.) Downloading the newest WIC patch (1.0.0.9)
3.) Reinstalling WIC
4.) Quitting EVERY background application
5.) Updating my video driver
6.) Running in compatibility mode
7.) Running the game in all the different resolution settings
8.) Run as administrator

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 32bit
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo e8500

OTHER INFO:

1.) This does not happen on any of the other games I play:
a. Bioshock
b. C&C Tiberium Wars 3
c. F.E.A.R
d. Crysis Warhead
e. EVE Online
f. Sim City 4
g. Medieval War
h. Etc…
2.) I can attach my full dxdiag info if anyone thinks it would be useful
3.) I have the full conversation with the tech support saved if anyone would want to see that as well, however it is a bit long and I didn’t want to post it all here yet.

Thanks in advance

looks like you have tried everything .

how did you update your drivers ?

it may be time for a windows reinstall

how thoroughly have you tested the general stability of your system?

kernel32.dll errors are always very vague, because that specific file handles many operations in windows. Simple registry changes can actually trigger events such as the ones you described (like crashes after a while or computer running unusually slow). These registry changes are usually done by spyware or malware. I suggest you run an anti-spyware application and also that you check your system for malware/rootkits.
If after checking your system and everything is removed (everything that shouldn't be there that is) and the problem continues, your best bet may be to repair or re-install windows.

The only thing I can think of is that WiC is CPU intensive.

Are you OCing your CPU?

Can you run ORTHOS for about 4 hours? What are the temps on the CPU?

Is your CPU HSF working properly?

If you temp for the CPU is high, you might want to re-seat your HSF.

Good lyuck.

1.) All hardware is at stock settings
2.) My CPU's temp is fine, TJ max readings are cool
3.) GPU's temp is fine
4.) If my system was unstable, other games would be crashing (or at least other apps), however, please note my "OTHER INFO" in the original post. No other games (even similar games like Medieval War, and C&C) crash ever.
5.) My heatsink is working fine, it's an AC aftermarket
6.) I run Ad-Aware every day

The only thing I have not done is updated my BIOS and chipset or sound.
I'm somewhat afraid to mess with this stuff because A.) I have never updated these before, and B.) Everything else on the comp runs smooth as butter (if it ain't broke don't fix it)...

Do you guys really think updating BIOS and chipset/sound will have any effect?

Actually, bios updates can often fix various driver issues, that could be contributing to the crash.
It would certainly not hurt to try a bios flash, as well as a chipset one.

I am somewhat confident that updating sound drivers won't fix anything; however, if there are newer ones available, you might as well update.
