Probally gonna buy this

Looks like you've done quite a bit of researching. The only thing i can say is, if you can spare about 140$US to go up to the Nvidia 6800GT, it would be better. Uses diffrent RAM (GDDR3... = cooler + less power and faster stock), and also has more piplines (i belive 16 instead of 12).

The only other thing to be carful of is the 350watt PSU. I know that's what comes with the case, but it might be a good idea to look for a 420watt or 480watt PSU if you go for the Nvidia 6800GT.

Everything else looks great.

~Hope this helps, and enjoy it ^_^

I would also recommend getting scoket 939 cause you will have more upgradiblity later on and it will save u money....

you dont need the GT6800 it would be better to get the socket 939 and then if u need u could add a Gt6800 later. I have thought about this alot also you can get the 19 inch version of the montior refurbed for the same price or just pay 75 bucks more its prolly worth it for gaming.

Yea, ive had a Sony trinitron 19" CRT for over 4 years now, and its served me well. :D Perfect screen size at 1280x960. If you have the room, i would go with a 19" CRT Great value for the money.

this is already streching my price range as it is, i really wanted to get the GT but 140 is a lot on a college budget, and the 939 boards suck right now plus its 150 more for the 3500+

maybe go for the 19 inch, not sure yet, if i change my power supply i will probally change the case all together becuase 100 for a case is a lil much for me.

any suggestions on a good case and a hella quiet psu for around 100 bucks?

thx for ur help

The Antec 3700 BQE or AMB are good choices for cases. I hear the BQE is very silent stock. Might be something to look into. The AMB I think is a fantastic case, and cheaper too. I've built 3 systems using it, because of its relative cheapness coming stock with an Antec 350 Watt power supply. The drive rails, removeable HDD rack and plenty of room for expansion adds to the attractiveness. Plus, I like the minimalistic looking cases rather than ones that are all ricey.

Also, if you're on a budget... maybe try dropping that Raptor and go with a 6800 GT, then just partition your 160 GB drive. I think overall you might be happier...

Yeah if your on budget then raptor isnt worth it.

I agree, when gaming, i think the 6800GT at near ultra speeds (if not ultra speeds, i hear the normal OverClock on these things are quite high) will yield better game performance then a 36gb raptor. (raptors are nice, but if your on a budget of around 1000$......... might not be the best option).

As for cases, there are always antecs, and ive had some luck with Aspire cases. Their mid range full ATX cases are reasonably priced, with a 420watt PSU.

77$ http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=11-144-057&DEPA=1
420watt PSU, side window, Side mounted hard drive rails, If you don't mind the looks of it, its not bad for the price. (aspire makes others too, that's just an example).

I also agree, if you don't need a max of 4gb of RAM, there is'nt much performance diffrence between the 3500+ and the 3400+ (or 3200+ for that matter).

If you plan on upgrading the processor within a year, the 939pin might be better, but if your going to stick with the processor for a few years, the 754pin is fine for the price.

Everything else looks good

~Hope this helps
