My boss asked me to look into a USB to 4 Port NIC. Now I don't even think this is possible given the throughput speed of the USB limiting the 4 NIC ports. Just thought I would throw this out there to see if its available. I have googled for hours with no luck and only finding a single USB to NIC adapter. Thx for any help.

How about a USB hub with 4 USB NICs? Throughput would still be impacted, but it's the closest to his request I can think of.

Why on earth would you want to have a USB 4 port NIC? I'd love to hear the story behind that request...

HAHA, thats the same thing I said and im still waiting for a response. What is worse is that this is for a server!

wrong on so many levels.

Get a single decent intel nic, and use .1q if you need the computer on multiple subnets for some reason, get a second decent nic or a dual port nick and do LACP if that's what you're after.

BUT BUT BUT, the server has 4 usb ports, so we can add 4 more usb nic's :)

silly people these days :)

Sounds like you have a boss who thinks he knows but knows sod all. I have had them, none tech bosses who think becuase they know what a USB cable is they know how to do your job. Thank god I told them to stuff their job!

Was the best thing you did to probably right ? :)

I turned turn around and said look ass hole, you do the god dam job then and see how far ya get. When you fuck this shit up, hope you have money to fix it, because your a dumbass! & walked out.

The guy said that we needed to replace our server that needed to be replaced, that was cool so me and the other guy spent a week researching out the best prices and stuff for a nice server. The boss came back with thats a over priced machine, we should just go to costco and get a e-machine. NICE! run the whole business off a emachine FML!

Well, all else fails do the math and statistics and show him the simple math of which is better choice. ;)

Seriously. Make an effort to persuade them. Business owners and managers understand dollar signs. Speak their language and you'll get what you need.

you spent a week doing that? What a waste of time, that should only take an hour or two.

Also, what the OP wants not only doesn't exist but is beyond stupid.

I would explain to him that it is going to cost him much more in the long run to do things half a$$.

My boss actually knew better but the non-tech above him did not. We basically looked into it just to make the guy happy. The corporate world is a strange monster sometimes. I just told the guy they don't make it and even if they did the USB port would not be fast enough to keep up with the traffic of 4 gigabit ports. That ended that idea :)
