Okay. The answer to this is probably no, but it would be awesome if it was yes....

Can you use a laptop HDD (in this case from an iPod) in a PCMCIA slot in a laptop? Are the connections even the same? I know they sell HDDs that are made for the PCMCIA slot, but they're smallish (6 GB: made by simpletech). I was given a dead iPod, but it still does work as a FireWire 400 external HDD. I was just wanting to streamline my setup a little, and put the HDD in the PCMCIA slot. Thanks.
 
Nope. iPod drives are also not standard lappy HDs. They are custom built for apple.

Really? I was under the impression that they were just normal, ordinary HDDs.
 
Huh, waddaya know? Well i'm still trying to figure out if either the iPod HDD or a standard laptop HDD will work if i just stick it in a PCMCIA card slot.

It will not work. The pin layout is different and the PCMCIA standard is completely different to the IDE standard. If you do get it to fit, which it won't, there is a good chance you will fry something.
