But does anyone think that any of the ATI high end PCI-E cards would be able to be used in SLI sometime in the future? As in if you got a 800, 850 card, do you think they will make it so you can add another for SLI (Ala 6800 ultras, ect)?
I doubt they will, but i couldn't find anything on the forums about it, so figured i'd ask...Hope it wasn't TOO dumb a question tho...
 
Alienware is developing a technology called Video Array: http://www.alienware.com/alx_pages/main_content.aspx

With this technology it should be possible to use stock ATi cards (or other brands) in a dual configuration (or even more), similar to SLI.

It's not exactly like SLI though... SLI requires a physical connection between the two cards... which won't be possible on current ATi cards, since they don't have such connectors.

ATi is also working on its own SLI-like technology, but I don't know yet if that will require a physical connection between the cards... If not, it may be possible to use current cards with their new technology... Their GPUs have supported multiprocessing for a long time, and Silicon Graphics' largest visualization systems already use arrays of ATi chips (R300).
 
Thanks. Was considering getting an XT850 PE but still debating whether i should wait for the next generation of ATi SLI capable cards to come out...Or just go with 2 6800 ultras.
