Probably a Dumb Question but I'm curious

If the new Mac OSX Tiger is meant to run on the intel boards, could one purchase a PC and then partition the harddrive and install the new OSX on the PC hardware? I'm not interested in an Intel Mac or anything, it's just something I've been wondering.

it's been done, but the people got sued real fast by apple. so, short answer; no.

No you could not just go out and buy a normal PC and install OSX Tiger. Tiger needs EFI to run while most all Wintel PCs have BIOS. Plus Tiger doesn't have drivers for any and all types of motherboards and stuff, it's looking for certain hardware.

If you want it to run you need to purchase an Apple Computer.

you are wrong on all accounts.

It can be done and it does work. It's a lot of work to get it all set up though (nothing like a real Mac which pretty much works out-of-the-box) and it's not entirely stable.

If you just want to check out Mac OS and get a taste of it, it might be useful, but not really worth the work involved (go spend an hour at an Apple Store instead). It won't be as stable or as functional as a real Mac system, though. Also, it's illegal.

Also, if anyone remembers, I'm the "designer" of the Hackintosh.

Yes, I know it can be done but if he's asking this question he probably is thinking its an easy install so in his case "it won't be done".

I am right Mactels don't use BIOS........

Yes, but you didn't say that, you said "Tiger NEEDS EFI to run" when this is obviously not true. It runs on a PC, and PCs don't EFI, therefore, using basic elementary logic. Tiger doesn't NEED EFI. Even though its hacked, its still running on a BIOS.

yes the new mactels use EFI instead of BIOS, the versions of OSX that are floating around the web currently are developer versions leaked and are able to be installed on a normal pc. Those versions are hacked up so that the requirements are lowered such as having a SSE3 CPU and such. Also the drivers are hit and miss and the the updates are a pain.
