Until Friday afternoon, I had been constantly running the graphical client on my Athlon 2800 Barton at work for a week. I had no problems while folding and running other programs during that period. At the end of the day, I shut down the machine restarted it. I kept getting lockups followed by a black screen as XP loaded. I had the cpu overclocked, thinking that might be causing the problem, I set it back to default speed. Didn't help. Finally I gave up and uninstalled the client and loaded the no-nonsense console client.

Saturday morning I stopped by work and noted that the the folding had stopped progressing. Downloaded the program again and eight hours later it had stopped again. I prefer to go back to the graphical client, but I haven't found any info about a workaround to the lock-ups.

Anybody have any ideas?

what version of windows?

did you fully uninstall the client? deleted all registry entries too?

how did you know the client wasn't progressing?

I'm running XP. I did not go into the registry and delete any entries. With regard to the no-nonsense console client, as I recall, a certain number of steps out of 1000000 had been completed for some time, and no progession had been made. I'm not at work to check, so I'm not sure of the exact wording.

Just got to work and my Athlon 2800 has been running the no-nonsense console client version 5.0.1.0 for nearly 48 hours. I've been folding protein p219_c21murea and am now on step 64000 out of 1000000. That seems extremely slow to me!! No other programs have been running. Hibernation/standby, etc. is off.

Does this speed sound right?

I cannot speak for that WU specifically... but sometimes there are some that slow you down pretty good.. check your log file for any errors that there might be, that would be my first guess as to see if it was running smoothly... or if it might have incomplete units and got another new one that you just now see

Could be a new protien... post part of the log file....
is SSE enabled?

Keep on Folding!!

Everything pretty much looks good..... but.....

"[13:05:11] Unit 1's deadline (February 22 07:00) has passed."

I've never seen that before? Is the clock on your PC correct (date, year, everything)?

Clock is now correct; however, on Fiday I pulled the battery and reset the bios back to defaults because I was having the problems with the graphical client. I initially forgot to reset the clock before I downloaded the no-nonsense console.

Couple of questions,

Where are the settings located for the console?
If I restart the computer, does it automatically save the steps for resumption at the same place?
Are you aware of anyone else who has had a problem after restart when running the graphical console?

Thanks for the help!

If you run the console with the -configonly flag, you can adjust the settings... There is a "checkpoint" that you can set for every 15min(default) or as high or low as you want.... bear in mind, some have found out the hard way that setting your checkpoint too low can make the protien take a few hours longer......

As for the graphical, there are a handful of problems here and there, that's why we all recommend the console... Just use EMIII to monitor your boxen....

The problem is, I can't find the options for the console to change the configon flag. Where do I look? Sorry to be so ignorant.

The EMIII will has just what I was looking for. Can I download and install while running the console whitout messing up the current project ?

Yup... EMIII is a completely seperate entity.... it's just a program to monitor F@H, alerts you to problems,etc....

If you stop the console, and go to the directory, create a shortcut, go to the properties of that shortcut, and add "-configonly" to the path, you'll be golden.... just click on it and it'll run ask you a bunch of questions, etc (team, name)..... If you have questions as to what each question is really asking, look here...

Or you can ask here... We'll answer any question(s) you may have :D

To use the -configonly, just run the executeable from the command line ex: c:\F@H\FAH502-Console.exe -configonly, or you can use the instructions here.

Installing EM3 while the client is running won't cause any problems with the work its currently performing.

Glad to hear it! Let us know if you have any more questions!
