Privatunes: iTunes Anonymizer

[Rich Tate]

A while back we had reported that DRM free iTunes tracks were being distributed with your personal information attached in an unencrypted form. A French company has created a a free program called Privatunes that can remove that information. I have to wonder how long before the lawyers circle.

The free software, which is currently only available for Microsoft, allows consumers to erase their name and e-mail addresses from their iTunes Plus files. The software, which can only anonymize one file at a time, also offers to make a backup of the original file.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they already have their legal teams on the line.

Hope Apple isn't surprised.

Take your bets. I smell cease and desist.

No, they're French, so more like we surrender.

I buy an iTunes file. It is on my computer. I have every right to do as I please with the data on my computer.

Sadly, as we share your opinion, the media industry does not

Why would you buy music just to share it? If you are going to be illegal then just use Limewire or something to download it.

You have to understand, these guys are Business Majors. If they were smart enough to follow logic they'd be doing something else.
