We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.

What would be the best way to go about setting up some LAN filesharing, something that would only allow transfers among users on the same LAN?

What OS? If windows, just turn on windows file sharing. Not hard, if you only want people to read your files make sure to set the permisions.

If *nix, samba also works (windows file sharing for *nix), or you can use NFS mounts, or FTP, scp, sFTP.

Need more info on what you want to use it for.

Oh another option, use AIM or other IM service with file transfer.

I think he is asking about something like Kazaa, WinMX, Blubster, etc but only for a LAN.

Windows shares and Start -> Find works just as good as Kazaa.... except with no RIAA chasing you like a dog in heat at a dog show.

I know he was thinking like Kazaa, but really for a local LAN. Nothing better than just windows shares and search like what was said.

You could use DC if you really want, but that is overkill for a LAN.
