For those who haven't been paying attention to the last part of the Thunderbolt thread there is a new application just released for Android called Privacy Blocker

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.xeudoxus.privacy.blocker

It was created by a droidforums.net dev named Xeudoxus. This is probably the best application Android users can ever get, in my opinion. It's pure genius.

It scans all your applications and tells you what data they access. It then allows you to "fix" those issues. PB rebuilds the application in question and makes the data static with bogus information. The application then uninstalls the dirty version and install the clean on. It keeps backups of the original ones as well. ;)

Now this does stop you from being able to update the files through the market automatically. You would have to look for the update, uninstall the "fixed" version, install the new version, and then fix the new version.

However, Xeudoxus has stated he is working on a way to make that easier. Sounds like he plans on trying to have the app check the market for new versions when you scan your apps in Privacy Blocker. If a new version is there PB would download, fix and install, right then and there.

It's actually quite enlightening (and alarming) to see just what data these applications access and transmit. For instance the application "Elixir" has 19 "violations" according to PB. Dolphin Browser Mini has 8. This is data like is your SIM mounted. Are you roaming? So it's data no application really needs.

Keep in mind that the app is not free.

What's a little cash for a lot more privacy?

I'll let the nothing-to-hide crowd get their stuff monitored and spammed.
