I have an HP Photosmart 7960 and i'm trying to find the best way to print out these very large pictures i took of some jewelry for my mom. I usually just go to my pinter properties and set it to photo quality printing and then fit it to page and it comes out decent. The color on the print that comes out is always different than what i'm seeing on my computer, not bad just different. Also what would be the best way to take a 2272 x 1704 image and make it fit and look good on a 8.5 x 11 peice of printer paper? When i try to make it fit its streched and distored. For people with this printer and also print out their pictures, what settings do you use to make your pictures look top notch. Thanks

Only allow a proportional stretch on the image.

Make sure you have the correct paper selected for the printer, plus HP photo inks. The problem of on screen/on paper plagues the industry every day. They are two different ways of showing color (the paper is reflective, while your monitor is transmissive) so it's very hard to make them look the same.

You could also put it on a memory card and take it to your local Wal-Mart or Walgreens (I'm sure there are other places that do this). They've got a machine there that will read from any memory card and allow you to print out an 8x10 on actual photo paper. It costs anywhere from 3 to 6 bucks per picture but they come out looking pretty good. It will also print out other standard print sizes (4x6, 5x7). For 8x10, you just want to make sure you have a picture that is at least 3 megapixels and preferably 4 so the print out isn't pixelated.

I use the deviant art print service and just had them print me up some 8x12" and 10x15" photos from my trip to Maui.

Just got the photos today and I am very happy - the color/finish is superb; much better than anything I've seen from Walmart, etc.

8x12's cost $2.50 and the 10x15's were $4.25 - took two days to receive them.

You first have to open a Deviant Art account, once you upload your pics you can then send them to the Deviant Prints site where they will be available for purchase. You can buy your own prints at the base price, and make them available for sale to the public at higher prices. (take my gallery for example: http://www.deviantprints.com/~beernuts/ )
