printer streaking problems

I got a brand new HP 7660 printer and I'm using the tricolour and black cartridges (had to buy black seperately because it came with photo ink). well, the printer and ink are all brand new, but for some reason, black is streaking like nothing else. I tried cleaning the cartridge heads with a wet q-tip and i mean, there wasn't much there to begin with, so naturally, it did nothing. I still have tons of black streaking (colour works fine) and it's starting to annoy me. Is it the printer or the black ink? Again, everything is brand spanking new and it started doing this from the first page i printed. I even tried the different levels of the cartridge cleaning thingies available with the HP software, but all I got was a shitload of ink wasted and still the same streaking. Something worth noting is that is streaks lines of text, no in between lines, and it streaks outside the default margins of the printer. Is there something wrong with the rollers that I can fix myself or should I exchange asap?

If I were you i'd just take it back and exchange it if it's brand new.

I'm not familiar with that particular model of printer but are the print heads integrated into the cartridge (most HP printers i've seen are), you'd be able to just replace the cartrige ift that's what it is.

It is possible that the mono cartridge is defective. Return your black cartridge for a replacement and see if that solves the problem. If not then return the printer.

ok, will. do i need to go through the trash and find the box and all for the cartridge or can i just take it back with the receipt? i've had problems with returning/exchanging stuff at bestbuy before :(
