question... my dad wishes to buy a laser printer so that he can do work at home. I was browsing printers at newegg but realized that i dont know what i am looking for and he doesn't want to pay more than 200$. I was wondering if anyone could tell me a good model of this type and price or what specifications i should look for.. like a high x high dpi or what. thnx

I like the Samsung ML-17x0 series (I use the ML-1710). Newegg is selling the ML-1740 with a $50 rebate, so that would seem to be an awesome price (thought $120 up front). Very good entry-level laser printers IMO.

I have not tried an HP entry-level laser, but my experiences are good with their more expensive models (laserjet 2550 and the business level stuff), so I would think their inexpensive models would be pretty good.

Typically, any laser with 600 dpi will make really sharp looking text. I guess your dad just needs to use it for black and white docs right? Color lasers slightly more expensive than black laser printers.

Just remember that eventually, you'll probably have to buy new toner. A new cartridge will probably set you back at least $50 - $80, but they are good for thousands of prints and printouts come out to pennies per page (cheaper than inkjet for black and white).
