A guy that I built a computer for is having printer issues...and it has us quite perplexed.

System:
Shuttle MN31N nForce2 mobo
2500+ Athlon XP
512mb DDR
40gb hdd, 15gb hdd
DVD+-RW, CD-RW
56k modem.
XP Home

He has the following printers:
HP 970 (removed, as it went bad)
HP PhotoSmart 7550
HP All-In-One something or other.

All are connected to his desktop via USB. The 970 was removed as it went bad and started spraying ink all over the page, so the All-In-One was purchased.

Unfortunately, on the PhotoSmart 7550, it says that it has lost connection when printing. It happens at random times, but it always happens.

It did not occur on the 970 or the All In One, even when the same print jobs were sent to them.

A new 7550 was sent over, and it's still doing the same thing.

He tried installing it on his laptop, it lasted longer before failing, but still failed in the end.

None of the other printers have ever had any problems.

The drivers have been updated.

I'm going back over there tomorrow, and I need to have an answer...or at least some ideas.

I've told him to try plugging it into a different USB port and/or with a different USB cord...but I have my doubts that the USB cord is the problem.

if its not working on another computer then it is most likely (1) the cable or (2) the printer.
