I apparently find myself in the market for a new printer, so I am looking for advice on who makes reliable printers these days.

Mainly for printing junk for college, essays and such. The less expensive the ink/upkeep the better.

Thanks! :)

If you only need monochrome printing, laser can still generally be much cheaper per page. Consumer laser printers tend to use small cartridges that aren't much more economical than the better inkjets like the linked HP, but if you go shopping you can get e.g. Brother HL-5340D which has a high-yield 8,000 page toner for about $75. With the HP you pay about $30 for a 2,200 page black cartridge.

And laser is just nicer :p

I agree with keenan but power usage of laser is much higher than that of inkjet.

I like the Brother HL-2140 that I recently bought...as for power usage I just leave mine off till I need to print, I don't print too much.
