I am setting up a multi-function printer/fax/scanner with a print server, so that the usb and use ethernet.

I can get the thing to print correctly, but cant get the scanner function to work through the network.

Any suggestions?

I've never had scanning work for a multifunction attached to print server. I've had to use the server to do the actual scanning. I've never tried sharing out the scanner though, do you even have the option to share it out?

For the most part print servers are one way devices. You can only send data to them, not the other way around. The only way to get a network scanner for the most part is to buy one that supports network scanning. They do make some usb to ethernet workgroup server devices but by the time you buy one you can pickup a hp multifunction that has it built in that works better.

My all in one has an ethernet hook up to share so sorry... i would suggest updating the software that came with the device on the machine you are trying to scan from.

Unless the scanner comes with special software that lets you scan from the network (some HP's do), you will have to purchase 3rd party software to achieve what you are looking for. Try this one:

You can download the client for free and connect to their servers over the Internet. It's kinda' cool...
