Is prime95 safe to use? I'm going to be building a system for my brother next week and i was thinking of using it to test his system. I want to make sure his system is in good condition because he lives 320 miles away... and well i don't want to make a second trip back because something went wrong.

Maybe this should have been a general [H] post... heheh

Uh, yeah... of course it's safe. Run the Torture test, if it fails, then your system isn't rock stable.

The only risky thing about running Prime is that you'll put the maximum heat load on your processor... if your cooling isn't up to snuff, you'll have a reboot/crash on your hands.

It all depends on the user, some people run it for only a few hours, some for 12 and some for 24 or more before they decide it is stable. Run it for as long as you can basically. "Normally" if it is going to have an error it will happen in the first few hours.

I was looking at the read me files that comes with it.. it say's that you should run the torture test for 6 - 24 hours.. if you get no errors in that time.. you got you're self a stable CPU. The read me files say's some people can run the torture test for weeks without a crash... i haven't had the chanse to run it for that long.. only about an hour or so.. i got no errors.. so that's good at least.. i plan to run this bad boy for a while through the weekend since i'm not gonna be home much.
