Prime95 failure and Fix!!!!

I ran prime95 to test system stability and it would fail overclocked in about 8 minutes. When testing it at normal speeds it would fail always on test3, about 18 minutes.

I was pretty pissed off about this failure, I just bought all new components, athlon 2500XP, 1 gig ram,
So what I did to fix the problem was install the chipset drivers rom my cdrom. After I had to fix winXP after overclocking damage I never thought I had to reinstall all drivers.

So now my computer is not failing in Prime95, even overclocked to 2.0gig.

Is it suprising that a chipset driver install would make prime95 not crash anymore? They always claim that its never software your problem.

Depending on what you set it to if the units don't fit in the cache its gonna be using your FSB and memory and a faulty chip set driver install will affect this.

Ahahahahahaha, thats classic. So much for my processor not being able to do math eh? (Probably the case, but that throws a wrench into the argument doesn't it)

oh yeah, i always say that

and i have always stuck by the argument that NO PROGRAM IS PERFECT and CAN CRASH DUE TO SOFTWARE ISSUES - of course, ppl just link me to the arrogent bastard who made it where in the FAQ it says it is impossible that a software crash is the prob and the program is perfect

i agree, and it's quite funny that guy is saying his program is PERFECT
nothing is perfect in computers. let alone software. one persons machine is the same as anothers, but the OS loads are differnt and they run differnt software. also maybe differnt drivers. no program is perfect and either is prime

They make no claims of being perfect, nor do they rule out software as a possible issue.

From the P95 stress.txt FAQ:

"...it is possible that a recent change to the torture test code may have introduced a software bug."

Why must I bust out the the FAQ in every anti-P95 thread? Why? Read it before you start bitching and put your foot in your mouth.

I am confused. The OP stated that Prime95 was failing. After a some troubleshooting he determined that his chipset drivers were bad. When he fixed the drivers, Prime95 started working great. So Prime95 pointed out the problem and he solved it.

My question is, why the fuck is everyone saying Prime95 sucks? Obviously it performed its job of finding instabilities flawlessly since it uncovered this error. His system was unstable, and now it is stable. I am glad the OP didn't just decide Prime95 sucks when it errored.

I dont see anyone saying it sucks..

I dont even use prime. If all of my games run at 100% I am happy. =)

I am a die-hard swear-by Prime95 user, and I don't trust my system unless it does 24+ hours stable with the torture test.

Having said that...

Sorry, I just have to say this before this thread turns into another "Prime 95 sucks" thread. (It is in danger of doing so even though no one has said that p95 sucks yet :p)

I am sick of hearing peoples' opinion about Prime95. If you are happy with your own system, then please enjoy it. Some people are happy if their games run smooth, some people are happy with BSODs every 2 minutes, and some aren't happy until they can do P95 for 2 weeks. The point is, as long as it does what you want it to, it's perfect for you. Arguing the reliability of programs you don't even use or need to use is pointless. So if you're happy with what you have, stay that way and quit arguing about OTHER PEOPLE'S benchmarking methods :D

you know what? i basicly said the same thing in a diff thread, and ppl started flaming it for me, saying that "if someone said they couldn't pass prime95 then im gonna say they better go fix it" and shit like

it was very pathetic if you ask me.....

could be a hardware issue
i had prime95 fail on me when i ran 2 instances of it (to get 100% load)
got a hell of a BSOD which i only got once before due to low latency that ram couldnt support
so i run memtest, 5000errors in less than 10 minutes. got the ram rma'd, now im on the old pc, no gaming :(

There's absolutely nothing wrong with someone not trusting Prime 95. Nothing. But people come to forums like these to learn and when people start uninformed threads like this it's hard not to set them straight. I also made an effort not to insult his intelligence(and succeeded, woot).

prime means jack to me in the end, as long as games run fine is all that matters to me

but prime helped me to rma the ram, i had to run it at 2.85 to get it stable for some reason, after the crash i tested, errors, so i rmad. it has its use i guess.

Nothing wrong with that. Make false claims about P95, then we'll butt heads.

I found an ez fix for all my Prime problems...idk if it works for all, but it has for me on all my nf2 systems. Just call 1-900-fix-p95# & I'll tell ya....

j/k, but I can tell ya what worked for me... :D

Don't remember posting that last night, I'm such a dork.

LOL - you want to be a ballerina, HAHAHA :p

I installed the MorpheusWare NVidia ReMix drivers (W/ ABit 4.08 audio drivers) and the HeapAlogithm Update/ Patch (found on the same page):
http://envynews.com/rev_print.php?ID=626
I ran P95 all night after that on 2 of my 4 NVidia systems. The other 2 use discrete soundcards (cuz no Soundstorm), so I skipped the Remix w/ the 4.08 audio drivers. Idk which of the 2 were the fix, but my systems are running much better now. ;)
