prime 95 test problem

k this is weird. if i do a torture test on prime 95, i did the maxiumum heat, maximum power, and some ram tested. then i start the test i hear a high pitched chearping noise come from my computer. i took the side off and im pretty sure its coming from the psu. if i stop the test the sound will stop, then when i start it again the noise will continue. then i noticed when my comp is at idle i go into cpu-z. the v-core wich i have set at 1.9V is going between 1.85 and 1.9. its never stable. is this a bad psu. its an Antec 550W truecontrol
 
i just set it back to stock 2600+ speed, thus at stock voltage, and now i do the test at stock voltage and the sound goes away. wtf

edit: also to tell u, i just got this mobo and it never did it with the old mobo. am i the only person that went through a mobo a hardrive and a powersupply in a total of 3 days. damn im havin bad luck.
 
Do you have the temperature alarm on in the BIOS? It is located in the same place where you adjust your FSB, voltages, etc. Prime is probably causing your CPU temperature to raise above the value the BIOS has.
 
can you try a new PSU? if another one doesnt make the noise, then contact antec for an rma
 
is prime95 safe to use? can it bonk your system? because i was thinking of using it on my system.. and on a system i'm going to build next week
 
Hey you know what? I also encounter the same thing. It is not really high pitched for mine tho, it just starts chirping.

And I have an Antec Sonata with the stock 380Watts PSU.
 
yes yes, it is more like a chirping noise, i tried my friends psu, wich is also an antec 550 watt and it didnt make the noise.
 
Are you sure that it is coming from the PSU tho? I thought it was like the CPU or maybe the HSF on the CPU?

Edit: You know what? It is coming from the PSU. I stuck my head and listened very closely and that is exactly where it was coming from. The minute I turn off Prime, the noise dissapears. Do you think it is because the PSU is being pushed to its limit or something?

because when i put in my friends psu the noise went away, and if i put my ear in the back fan of the psu where its exiting the case u can definetly tell its coming from the psu. how long of warrenty do the antec 550 watt psu's have, and i think i lost the receit, does that matter

Prime95 is simply a program that stresses your system in the same way a game or another program of that sort would. It just demands a little more from the system than a game or something would. If your computer cannot run Prime95 for a long period of time (say, 24 hours or more) without any errors, then it's defective (if it's at stock speeds), or is a failed overclock.

Prime95 will not damage your system. Any system I build I run Prime95 on for at least 72 hours straight, and any time I overclock something I test it with prime95 for at least 24 hours.
 
would the enermax 651W psu be just as good as the antec true control. it does cost more money, but that doesnt mean anything
 
LOL :D at least you can have prime95 running. I start it on my computer and less than 3 mins later my computer shuts off with the overheat light on but my cpu by mbm only reports 55C while running it. BTW its the system in my sig with a 350W antec stock PS. I just built this system like a month or so ago and the 512mb stick of PC3200 fails on test 6 every time. Could this be possible a power shortage from my PS? Just curious.
 
Is weird tho man. The system is stable when I do anything else, gaming, photoshopping, burning, ripping, and etc. The only time it makes that annoying sound is when I start up Prime.

And see, the diff. between mine and yours is basically the VCore. I have mine set at stock Voltage, so we know that heat is not the problem. The thing we have in common is the Antec PSU.

What mobo are you using?

i have an abit nf7-s. i not have an enermax 651W and no noise at all, and thats v-core at 1.9V.
 
So you are saying that it is just the Antec branded PSU causing this noise to occur?
 
i noticed my enermax does this too. Definetly not as loud though. i have to put my ear right up againt the psu fan. it makes that chirping noise. guys try doing this with your psu's. run the max power test. it makes a noise too during 3dmark03, still very very feint.
 
should i be worrying about this, or should i go exhange it when i have the chance to.
 
mkay, i exchanged it for the same brand and model. hardrives are definetley suppost to do this, since this one does it too
 
Try running Sandra's Burn-In test. That'll take your CPU to 100%.
