Price war has begun....

Microcenter is preselling ryzen as well - they won't presell mobos though but say they should have stock. I had pre-ordered a 1700/370x combo but cancelled due to waiting for actual numbers. In the meantime - MC has a i7 6800K and 2011-v3 x99 matx mobo for 583 out the door. That is cheaper than my 1700/370x pre-order and if I read the leaked benches right - the 6800K runs neck and neck with the 1700x/370x combo which is a tad more expensive.

Interesting. I was just thinking of Microcenter too!

Based on the benchies the Intel 2011-v3 CPU's should start coming down in pricing so my upgrade path will probably remain Intel for the forseeable future. Good bet I'll be sitting on my 5820k for some time unless another hawt deal comes up in the $300 dorrar range. I paid less for this CPU at Frys than the 7700k at the time of purchase. Got the MOBO on sale to boot.

I got my 5820k for 300 in November 2014 so I will need something good and cheap to make me move off of this thing for a while. First time (for me) the motherboard cost more than my CPU at this price point, albeit not by much.

yeah looks like the not so great gaming benchmarks had them raise prices - the 6800K is up now too.

Even amazon and newegg seems to be creeping back up. 7700k was down to 339, back up to 349 now.

It blows my mind how expensive some of these chips get. I started my upgrade process for my old Haswell rig this year and just finished my first upgrade: swapping a G3258 for a 4170 i3. I couldn't overclock the G3258 due to me having an H97 chipset board anyway, and the bump up to a hyperthreaded chip with a faster clock was kinda nice. Price for the chip? 80 bucks. Heck, not even that, as I plan on selling my G3258, and it goes for roughly 40 used on eBay. I realize it has nowhere near the performance of an i7, but for most games, I find 30 FPS playable. My next upgrade is swapping out my 750 ti for a 1050 ti, and swapping a 1 TB HDD for a 3 TB one (I already have one 3 TB, but need a bump in storage for Steam now that my collection is.....insane). I was going to upgrade my SSD from 120 GB to 240, but with the bump up in SSD prices I think I will wait and see if there is a drop.

Anyway, yea, crazy how the high end chip prices work.

Microcenter has the 7700k back down to 299 now. Last week it was 319 I believe, but they had more motherboards on sale so pricing with their in house bundles is probably about the same. Everywhere else it seems the 7700K is back up to its old 339-349 price point. One thing I did notice at my local microcenter, a lot of the more popular z270 boards are showing sold out/out of stock since the Ryzen release. My guess is a lot of people were on the fence waiting for the final Ryzen benchmarks to come out before taking the plunge on an upgrade. Came close to upgrading my old Ivy Bridge system myself but Ryzen strikes me as beta hardware which may or may not get its issues resolved, and Kaby Lake/Broadwell E as placeholder platforms until the real upgrade comes with 6 core coffee lake.

A lot of people waiting for the miracle that didn't happen is buying now what they should have gotten 3 months ago. And it does show on sales in the small DIY segment.
