Price being equal; 5700XT or 2070 Super?

With the custom 5700XT cards now appearing locally here, but with prices that matches the 2070 Supers, should I just go 2070 Super instead of the 5700XT?
Or is the 5700XT still a better buy at the same price (less than 15 dollar difference)?

I (will) have a 144Hz 1440p monitor for gaming and one 1440p 60Hz monitor as secondary.
Sometimes I will hook the PC up to the 4k 60Hz TV for SIM racing.

My take is 2070S. It's close, but the drivers are mature, UE loves Nvidia, and overall I would expect the experience to be better.

The difference should be at least 50 USD, and for 100 it's a nobrainer, but with the price being equal 2070S should be a better choice, unless freesync or something AMD specific.

Price being equal, it seems the 2070 SUPER has the performance advantage on average.

Same price? 2070 super. Rtx (although of questionable value), drivers are more stable right now, better performance stock vs stock, better performance overclocked.

What monitor will you specifically have? You need to decide if you want Freesync or GSync.

    Not even a contest.

2070S is a bit faster, has more stable drivers, and of course has RT you can optionally experiment with.

2070s unless one plays one or two games that the 5700 XT excels in. That is for same price, for asking price I would vote 5700 XT.

2070S, I'll parrot the driver advantage, especially with the latest one.

(Also I really like Quake II RTX, to the point that AMD is out of the question for me personally. Yeah I'm a dork like that)

Same cost where you are take the Super. If there's a 80-100 difference the 5700XT.

Same price, 2070S, unless the 5700xt costs less there isn't much reason to get it. Not sure how much higher frequency they have on the aftermarket so it may be really close in speed, but 2070S has more features and is generally faster. If I'm going to sacrifice features and/or performance it better cost less.

Good for you, not everyone shares your sentiment. It doesn't make you more right than him or vice versa. It means you have different ideas of value for specific features.

Which is, of course, my point.

He originally wasn't stating "I" or "me", he was stating "you" take the 5700xt with 80-100 price difference...

If AMD cooked up a half assed RT solution tomorrow it would be the best thing ever. And if Lisa Su would sign it the snake handlers would pass out.

The I is implied in an opinion, what are you talking about? No where did I say RT shouldn't have value to anyone else? You brought up RT value then as stated I said for me, not anyone else it didn't have value right now.

Now that Minecraft is getting RTX treatment, I am definitely interested in RT now. It all depends on if you are interested in the tech. I really hope some more older games that have high frame counts on these cards get more RT treatment because it will have a lesser performance penalty overall.

Lets face it, The reason there is a price difference is because the 2070 Super is a better card. Outside of a few specific use cases or blatant fanboyism there wouldn't be much reason to snag a 5700XT @ the same price.

This is where you are completely wrong... If it's half assed I wouldn't buy it either. I don't care if it was AMD or not. Where do you think people are asking for a half assed solution. Most everyone said the technology and implementations need to mature before they want it... You are just projecting your insecurities on others. It has nothing to do with Nvidia besides they tried first and it's not there yet for most. If AMD came out with RT and it sucks, then it sucks and I wouldn't recommend anyone buy it for the RT, same as Nvidia. Stop taking stuff so personal on the internet and see that your view may not be the only one. Just because someone doesn't like a feature or care for a feature from your favs manufacturer doesn't make them an AMD fan boi. It means their using logic rather than blind following. If AMD comes out with RT and it sucks, I'll be right in line saying it sucks and calling out anyone that's a hypocrite.

having owned both cards and if pricing was equal 1:1 i would go for RTX 2070 Super because their drivers are much better at the moment. G-sync compatible seems to be working better than with my old GTX 1080 and is the same as 5700 XT with freesync. Also the 2070 Super overclocks better.

The 2070s is a better card, price being the same there is little reason to buy the 5700xt. But it is not much better, not 100 dollars better, not even 50. There is something to be said for refusing to reward nvidia right now. Not a fanboy just a pissed enthusiast. AMD is not moral by any means, but 5700xt does get close enough for me, personally, to speak with my wallet.

If you are getting the 2070S, make absolutely certain that you purchase a GSync compatible monitor. Also, does you 4k tv support freesync? If it does, the 5700XT is the better option, since Nvidia does not support Freesync over HDMI. If does not have freesync, just make sure you can keep the game at 60fps vsync settings and you will be golden. An example: I have a Samsung 4k 43 inch TV hooked to my Vega 56 and if I get above 60fps or a bit below 60fps, I get screen tearing without VSync enabled. (TV does not support Freesync.) Oh well, whatever you decide, do not forget to enjoy it. :)

Why would anyone recommend a gsync monitor these days? I don't mean that condescending, I'm actually curious. Unless said monitor also supports freesync, I don't see the point. It's just another (expensive) piece of hardware to lock you into Nvidia. If it supports freesync and gsync, you're not locked in, makes sense to me.

From what I understand, Freesync experience with Nvidia cards, even on very good monitors, has been mostly subpar, at best. That is why I would recommend getting a G Sync monitor for the Nvidia card, it will simply work better.

Understood, but I thought it worked well on monitors that were on their list. Again, I haven't tried it personally which is why I was asking. I personally don't like buying myself into a corner if I can help it, and g-sync monitors aren't cheap. If (big IF) AMD comes out with something good and you want to upgrade (if you don't get a monitor that supports both) it will mean you'll have to dish out a lot more than expected or stick with nvidia. Chances are, if you're getting a 2070s it'll be some time before you really need to upgrade again anyways.

Agreed, very close in power consumption, the other reasons given are legit. I wouldn't even consider the power difference in the decision.

If they are priced = locally buy somewhere else. The premise of this thread is illogical. You have enough choices to make this problem useless. 5700XT is priced lower for a reason. Slightly better fps and the suspicious RT and OC abillity put the 2070S ahead. Both are worth it at their $ depending on what your looking for.
You need to shop better dude and not waste thread space. If you said it was a hypothetical I would have more patience.

So are you thinking the temp on the chip is what is going to heat up your room? If so then you are the last person that should be calling anyone stupid. It is the overall power consumption that will determine if you are going to turn you room into a "furnace" not the temp you see on your gpu. Using your flawed logic, a 40 watt passive card running at 80 C would heat up your room more than a triple fan 2080 ti running at 65 C under load.

Ummm.... What? If you have 100 watts being dissipated, it's the same no matter what vendor. One may have better cooling so it doesn't feel as hot at any given time, but they will both produce the same amount of decatherms for your living room. AMD with the XT is slightly less efficient so will have slightly higher therms, if the cooling if insufficient (aka, blower cooler at lower fan speeds) the card will get get/stay warmer than one with better cooling. It doesn't make more heat, it just doesn't take it away as quickly.

If prices are equal, 2070S. Both are about equal on performance, but 2070S will allow you to prove first hand how useless RTX is currently. However, if 2070S is even $30 more, I'd go 5700XT.

You should also consider what monitor you're using. If you have a freesync monitor that is gsync compatible, you're good to go with either. If you have a gsync-only monitor, you're stuck with 2070S. If you have one of the few monitors that does freesync, but cannot do gsync, you need to go 5700XT.

Nasgul going on about 5700XT generating more heat had no idea what he's talking about. They both have very similar power usage and temps (depending on the cooler).

Techspot has the difference between the 5700xt and 2070 super as 2-4%. Anandtech shows the same. Meh. Game selection seems to play a huge role, the games you play should determine your selection along with feature set not company bias.
