Quite a few people have been experiencing stuttery performance with Prey - including me! Annoying slight pauses when moving around. Check out the 3DRealms website to see what I mean. Apparently this is a common problem with Doom 3 engined games on some hardware.
There is a way round this - press Ctrl Alt and ~ to open the console, (or ¬ if you're in the UK). Type in com_precisetic "0" (with the speech marks). This worked for me, the demo is now smooth.
To remove the 60fps bar type in com_fixedtic "1" Although this affects the physics engine. IMO it makes the game fast then slow, but it has helped some so it may be worth a try.
