The Apple MacBook Pros are just damn attractive looking, there is no ignoring that. A heavily aluminum casing with the fit and finish of an Audi and the power of a Porsche inside, hardware-wise they are just amazing. Sadly, a model built to my specs weighs in at almost $3,000 while comparatively equipped Asus notebooks sit at a valuable $1,600.
Are there any notebooks out there that are as well built, sturdy and attractive as the MacBooks, or to get that sort of style will I be forced to pay the hefty fine. Keep in mind it'll be running Windows XP + Linux, not OSX.
Most laptops I look at like Dell, HP, Alienware are all plastic, with flimsy hinges and loose/gaping sections that 'crackle' as you hold the casing since they aren't assembled to tight tolerances or with heavy duty materials. It is just disappointing. It doesn't bother me so much with most as they are still quite strong, they just don't always appear to be, but in cases like Alienware or HP's glossy cases, they just look cheap and sometimes tacky. I use to had Apple hardware with a passion but recently, I'm starting to realize why they cost a bit more, they put more into their equipment then most.
Don't take this as an offense to the other makers or your personal laptops, afterall I currently have a Dell D610 and love it. My friend's all have HP's and they are tanks, one being almost 6 years old now and still going strong. My Sony was a sad disappointment, powerful for sure at the time but the DVD-RW broke only a few months and maybe 3 burns into ownership, the LCD brightness started to weaken and the HDD failed after only a year. ..and that was with me babying it, stayed on my desk most of the time, traveled with me to work on occasion, riding shotgun in a cushy leather seat. lol
